Originally “VIER” · Designed by Yoshihisa Kishimoto
Quadrica is a two-player abstract strategy game originally named VIER
by its designer Yoshihisa Kishimoto. We renamed it Quadrica because “vier”
means “four” in German — and searching for “VIER board game”
online always leads to Connect Four, not this game.
How to Play
1
The Board — A 7×7 grid. Red pieces fill columns 2, 4 and 6
of every even row from the bottom; Blue fills columns 1, 3, 5 and 7 of every odd row.
2
Movement — On your turn, pick one of your pieces and slide it like
a rook in chess: any number of squares horizontally or vertically. The path must be
completely clear — no jumping over other pieces.
3
Win Condition — Be the first player to arrange four of your own
pieces into a solid 2×2 block anywhere on the board.
4
Passing — If you have no good move, you may pass your turn.
Each player is limited to 3 passes per game.
5
Timer (online) — Each player has a shared clock. Let your time
run out and you lose automatically.
6
Rematch & alternation — After each game the loser gets to
move first in the next, giving them a small advantage to bounce back.
